Review of Tribe 8

The artwork is, as one would expect from The Pod, amazing. Charles-Emmanuel Ouellette, Normand Bilodeau and Ghislain Barbe. If you're expecting more "anime" style from GB, forget it. The work it very intense with a lot more line work and ink wash. After just looking at the art, I was able toi feel the emotional direction of the game. The writing is..WOW! Coodles to Philippe R. Boulle, Stephane Brochu and Joshua Mosqueira Asheim!! Of course a big "Well Done!" to Jean Carrieres, Senior Editor! The game mechanics is the Silouette System naturally enough; but if you're looking for a bazillion rules like HG/JC, forget it. we're dealing with the basics here. It's all that is needed. There is a magic system, but it's more sympathetic magic, not Fireball the enemy type. The game is for Roleplayers, plain and simple. No Tac combat, no war machines; munchkins could still abuse the system like the always do, but here it's a stretch. Create boring ubercharacters? Bah.. The time is somewhere in the future; no dates are given. My guess is at least 4 generations from now. The place: Earth. To be more specific: Montreal and the surrounding region...albeit VERY changed (magic does that). The world is sorta "Beyond Thunderdome" meets magic and post-holocaust legacy survivors with a new society. But that's a very rough outlook. The world is what The Pod wrote: Original. The world has been reformed because some nasty other-worldly boogems called the "Z'bri" showed up outta nowhere and with no warning and promptly wasted everything. At the worst of it, eight Avatars (called "Fatimas") show up, kick some butt and free a great deal of humanity, who bugger back to Montreal (now called Vimary). The only male Avatar gets cacked in the fighting, so there are only 7 left to set up the Tribes. The 7 main Tribes are: Agnites, Dahlians, Evans, Joanites, Magdalites, Terashebans and Yagans. All the Tribes are Matriarchies (chauvenists exit stage left) but all are equal (basically). Each is lead by an avatar of The Goddess; each an aspect of her sum being. The Tribes are suppossed to be good, but are basically becoming fascists. That's where the PCs enter the picture: they are the outcasts.
The Eighth Tribe.
The basic goal of the story and PCs is to help establish the Eighth Tribe and help achieve true freedom from the corrupted Tribes and the Z'bri (seriously nasty Bad Guys).
Overall, I give Tribe 8 two thumbs WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY up!! For Montrealers like myself, it's an extra bonus seeing what's happened to th' old hometown, not to mention all the inside humor over the changes.
WAIT-TO-GO-POD!!!
