Review of Creatures of The Nightcycle

Goto [ Index ]
Billed as "A Complex of Dimness Adventure", where Sullenness is Mandatory, this book is a collection of topical humor and the traditional Paranoia sight gags loosely bound into an adventure.

One that would run rather well, I'd think. That would be if I could read it... unfortunately, they chose to print it with a godawful graphic as the background of the middle of each page. Yes, I know "dark" is in, but not in typesetting!

Okay, enough ranting... as far as Paranoia adventures go, this one is fun. Becoming VampClones to root out the undead (and their Gothbot servants, etc etc) is a fun romp, one that certainly makes even Alpha Complex look like a more desirable place than usual.

Well, except for the line art illustrations of sexy goths, which is probably the main reason the whole Vampire craze took off. Being undead just seems so much fun. And, like most Paranoia adventures, the monomaniacal villains generally have a nice standard of living, which now that I think about it is also a running subtext of V:tM. Will the parallels never cease?

Because so much of the humor is tied into current trends and current news, this is the sort of book that will be used by archaelogists centuries from now to try and really understand our culture (god help us all.) If you're going to run a Paranoia game in the next year, this is a great one to run... but you'd better hurry. Nightcycle is coming soon, and the VampClones will soon run amok...
