Review of Game Plus Products: Color Cube Combo Pack (150)

Primarily for Eurogames, Game+Plus cubes come in eleven non-metal colors and four metal colors. Each color has ten cubes, for a total of 150 cubes. The cubes measure 1cm on each side. The non-metal cubes have an icon on one side. The icons are printed in white, with the white cube having a blue star icon.

As replacement parts, the usefulness of these cubes will, of course, depend on the size, quantity, and color of your game's existing cubes. If, for example, your game's cubes are smaller than 1cm on each side and you're missing a few, you'll need to swap out the remaining game's cubes for the Game+Plus one.

Likewise, you may or may not want an icon on the side of your cube. The icons, however, are useful when you use the cube to replace a chit that has one purpose but two different sides. For example, in Macao, the ownership markers have a reverse side which is differently printed and serves as a punishment marker. You may find the icons useful in prototyping for impromptu pawns or playing pieces.

Finally, the cubes can be used as 1-point and 5-point counters, coins, or victory point tokens. The metal colors are an easy way to remember the higher denomination coin, and non-metal the lower. Since the white cube has a blue icon while the other non-metal cubes have white icons, you could use a metal cube as a 10-point token, the white cubes as 5-point tokens, and a non-metal cube as a 1-point token.

One other note is that Game+Plus cubes, gems, and game trays are available at Miniature Market, a popular online game store, with a free shipping threshold of $100. In other words, by including a Game+Plus purchase with your boardgame order, you can avoid the additional shipping costs of buying cubes from a site that only sells game pieces.
