Review of Dominion: Tank Police RPG and Resource Guide

The air is so foul that stepping outside without a gas mask is suicidal. Crime is so bad that the croks are the only people earning decent livings. The cops ahve resorted to riding aroudn in giant tanks and using cannons on crooks and whoever else is in their way. Corproations are performing secret genetic experiemnts that could replace mankind.

Great stuff for comedy, don't you think?

Dominion: Tank Police is a popular aninme about the cops in tanks fighting a war on crime. Specioficaly it is about Leona, newly transferred to the Tank Police, and the TP's greatest enemy the Buaku Gang. Guardians of Order's second anime licence, the Domninion RPG uses their familiar Tri-Stat System and adds a nre wrinkle -- Skills.

Skills work by providing modifiers on die rolls -- if yo7u have a skill, it reduces your roll. That's god, because lower is beter when you roll your dice. The roll can be modified upwards by how difficult the feat you're attempting to accomplish is, so having a god skill level lets you do harder stuff. The GM will have to decide just how hard what you want to do is. The skill list in Dominion is very long, but each skill is described only briefly with a lot of room for wiggling. Skills are purchased from a sepeatare pol of points that are expanded byh an attrikbute called Highly Skilled. Some things that are Attributes in other Tri-Stat games are skills here.

Fans of the series will like the game -- it's very faithful in both mood and content. Grim as the details can be, Dominion is essentially a dark comedy and the game plays that way. Tri-Stat fans who aren't familiar with Dominion and just want the skills system should probaly wait for "Hot Rods & Gun Bunnies" next month, which will also have the skills system.
