I just read a review of GURPS Black Ops from last week, and found I disagreed with the author's opinion, so here's another viewpoint.
This book rocks. You get to be gods-among-men cinematic action heroes, amazingly well-trained, strong, smart, and agile, and able to hold their own whether fighting huge monsters hand-to-hand, conversing at a Congressional ball, or trying to survive in the Arctic.
It's not an easy campaign, though. The PCs are part of a secret organization called the Black Ops, a group of the few hundred top members of humanity, the best of the best of the best. The Black Ops' mission is to try to drive back the various strange and shadowy creatures threatening humanity.
Unfortunately, while the Black Ops may be good, the aliens have all the advantages. They've been here for 40 years, they have strange and highly advanced technology, and they have all sorts of contacts, pawns, and puppets, not to mention the 10 million surveillance chips implanted in innocent civilians.
Even worse, there's more to deal with than just the aliens. There are huge beasts, fast and deadly wigglers, dinosaurs, vampires, werewolves and more. These things are mean.
If you've ever wanted to be a highly cinematic hero, if you like near-present science fiction, or if you just want to be Truly Badass, buy this book. You won't regret it.
