A Mighty Fortress is a great historic source book for 16th through 17th century Europe, with a huge detailed time line of Europe beginning in the early 16th century and stretching through the mid 17th. It also has some good information on everyday life and what the houses were like as well as the superstitions and "monsters" of the time. The equipment list is long and thorough and could be useful for that. It also has some useful maps of houses. No NPC's though, or any descriptions of the personalities of the age.

I don't normally pick up AD&D products liking other systems these days, but this is one I couldn't pass up. It was set during the time of th Three Musketeers and how could it be bad, and I thought it might re-interest me in AD&D.

Wrong. As a historical sourcebook its a roaring success, better than most other attempts at the period. Unfortunately, it is only a historic sourcebook, no material on how to emulate the Three Musketeers, Captain Blood or Cyran de Bergerac. In this regard it fails utterly, unable to buckle a swash.

If you can find this game and are playing 7th Sea, Lace & Steel or any other game based on his mileau, then pick it up. It will prove an invaluable resource and pay for itself in enjoyment alone.
