Review of Vampire: The Dark Ages

Goto [ Index ]
Vampire: The Dark Ages is good book were the art (John Bolton's work is great) and writing truly captures the mood of darkly evil vampires that move about a superstitious mortal world. Vampire TDA has so many romantic concepts and situations to play with. Modern vampire is nice, but the Dark Ages is truly the element for vampires. There is almost a mythic quality to the game setting, but it doesn't become pure fantasy.

Imagine a world were Vampire are meant to be seen and feared. A world were the church would send an army to crush you, but your army is ready to meet them. A world filled with courtly intrigues and the struggles of peasants and serfs. The world is a much more dangerous place, where people can disappear and no one will ever know. If you can't tell from the last several sentences, Vampire TDA's appeal is the setting.

There isn't really any changes made in the Storyteller system. Just stuff added to make it fit the setting (like changing the names of discipline powers or the adding of new clans). If you like Vampire, but want a change of pace, this the game for you. Also, this book is rich enough to be used for source material in any horror game (COC, hint, hint).
