Review of Faces of Evil
The adventure is set in the city of Ashar, a remote trading outpost deep within the desert wastes of Ethennia. Something sinister has been happening in Ashar, with people mysteriously disappearing in the night without leaving a trace, and the local temple's divine sparkle fading since the vanishings started. The denizens of Ashar are blaming supernatural forces such as Djinn, Ifrit, and Dust Devils, and fear grips the city once the suns go down.
As the Characters, the players are tasked with uncovering the truth behind the disappearances and putting an end to the evil that has taken hold of Ashar. But be warned, the dangers they face will be relentless, and the stakes couldn't be higher. The adventure is filled with intense action, unpredictable plot twists, and a richly detailed and immersive setting that will keep players on the edge of their seats throughout the entire campaign.
** SPOILERS AHEAD! **
One of the things that sets "Faces of Evil" apart from other TTRPG adventures is its unique and intriguing storyline. The players quickly discover that the truth behind the disappearances is not what it seems, and that the real culprits are a cult known as the Yiukashin and their undead Ghul servants. The cult's leader, the charismatic High Priestess Nimawe El'Bazaad, is planning to raise a Receptacle of Dhaos through a ritual known as the Transformation of Anointed Flesh. This is just the beginning of a grander plan that involves raising three Receptacles to bring Dhaos into the world and absorb all living beings into its monstrous form. The players must navigate the dark and twisted machinations of the cult, uncover its secrets, and thwart its plans before it's too late.
The "Faces of Evil" adventure is expertly crafted, with well-designed encounters, challenging foes, and thought-provoking puzzles that will test the players' skills and wits. The city of Ashar and the world of Athyr are richly detailed, with their own history, culture, and inhabitants that players can interact with and learn from. The adventure also provides ample opportunities for roleplaying, with memorable NPCs, intriguing storylines, and tough moral choices that will shape the outcome of the campaign.
In addition to its captivating storyline and challenging gameplay, "Faces of Evil" also boasts high production values. The artwork is stunning, with detailed illustrations that bring the world of Ashar to life, and the writing is top-notch, with evocative descriptions that immerse players in the dark and foreboding atmosphere of the adventure. The adventure is also well-organized, with clear and concise instructions for the Game Master, making it easy to run and customize for your group.
As a backer of the Blood and Doom Kickstarter campaign, I am thrilled with the value for money that "Faces of Evil" provides. Not only is the adventure available for free on Drivethrurpg, but the Kickstarter campaign also offers a wealth of additional content, including the full versions of the Blood and Doom rulebooks, custom dice, and other exclusive rewards.
