Sandy's Soapbox #206: When Do You Game?
Sandy's Soapbox
So the Spring bi-monthly game experienced delays because one player had theater practices, then she had to drop, so we found a new replacement player, but then he had theater practice, so we went to set up the summer schedule and basically found out no one could make it from that group.
Not a problem (I thought). Gaming will continue! I knew two couples that wanted to play a short Cthulhu campaign. But after a month, I wasn't able to get in touch with one set. Apparently having a first baby is distracting. So I found a second couple, and now we were good.
I sent out a list of four possible dates in July, all at least a week in the future. Now, I can't make Thursdays due to a recurrent commitment, but surely avoiding that one day won't cause trouble. I tossed out a mix of Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Being that I have a few adult-like responsibilities, alas, I had to limit it to dates I knew I could make, which is a bit of a pain for the other's schedules. Shouldn't be hard for them to adapt, though.
Unfortunately, one of them is busy Fridays and another on Tuesdays, and by the time we'd settled on possibly that Wednesday, the date had passed.
We punted to the next month-- August would succeed! Also, we hadn't tried a Monday-- that would solve things! Armed with wisdom and foreknowledge, I suggested a specific Monday, with the trailing Wednesday as a fallback date. Everyone said they'd check with their respective spouses...
... and check...
... and it turns out Mondays don't work, but that's okay, there's still Wednesday! We finally have a date, only 6 weeks after starting the schedule process!
Except one of them might not be able to make it, because she doesn't get her work schedules until the week before. Did I mention life as an adult can be rather a pain at times?
After a month of disorganization then 3 weeks negotiating, we have a 75% chance of full attendance for a date three weeks from now. Time to roll them dice.
How often do I game? As often as possible, which is to say, practically never.
Until next month,
Sandy
