Great Rail Wars Battle Report Me and my friend Chad Bloom have set out to play a Railwars campaign. For our first battle we chose to start with 400pt armies. I choose to play the Dixie Rails while Chad chose to play Wasatch. February 3rd 1999 – First Battle "Right of Way" Scenario from the basic book Dixie Rails: 1 Hero "Reverend Flap Jack McVoy" Wasatch: Setup: We each drew a poker hand to see who chooses what side of the table to setup on. Chad wins and chooses the side that does not have a river to go through to get into the cover of town. Turn1: We both run towards town, Not much actions as we are far away Turn2: Again we run toward town as my guys start making their way through a rather wide river. I get off a long range shot with my buffalo hunters but it misses. Flap Jack casts Holy Roller and gains the Dixie Rails another fate chip. Turn3: Wasatch moves up and the Dixie Rails draws first blood. An unlucky X-Squad bites the dust first from the Dixie Gatling Gun poised right in the center of the map. A Buffalo hunter draws a bead on the Mad Scientist Hero using a fate chip to re roll. Chad ends up rolling a 12 on the critical hit, Yep his head exploded like a melon. With the Wasatch Hero pushing up daises the tone for the rest of the battle was set. Turn4: Now the lead really starts flying. The Buffalo hunters take out a few X-squad members. The Automatons make mince meat of the Buffalo Hunters leaving only two standing in one posse. My Gatling gun is able to take down one of the Automatons though. Turn5: It gets ugly at this point. My Buffalo Hunters and Texas Rangers rip heavy into the X-Squads not leaving much left. Meanwhile both our Gunmen posse duke it out on the left side of the map. A Failed guts check sends my good posse of Buffalo hunters on panic. They roll of six for running and all but one of them are off the map. Wasatch takes a few more casualties than the Dixie though as the tide shifts in Dixies favor.. Turn6: Chad makes a desperation move with his jet pack squad flying them right into the Dixie Rails pack in attempt to land on Flap Jack. They fall just short and land on the one Buffalo hunters already eating dirt and on his way off the map in a panic to put him down. The other one lands on top of the building my guys are using for cover from the Automatons. The Texas rangers fire away taking out the last of the Jet pack squad. My other posse of Buffalo hunters both eating dirt make their recovering rolls. One of the them gets an ace to recover and gets enough to take an action right away. The lucky hunter is able to take down an Automaton leaving only three left. Turn7: This is the last turn. One of the Wasatch gunmen is sneaky and gets a rifle shot off at Flap Jack who ends up eating dirt. He makes his recovery roll with an ace and moves right behind the building out of the way. A few more shots go off but it is already too late for Wasatch. Deciding Factor: The Automatons were too slow to get into good range and my guys took cover behind a building. Final score was Dixie Rails 283 (6 Exp Points) Wasatch 141 (2 Exp Points) |
