Review of Temple of the Troll God
Goto [ Index ] |
The temple is currently the site of an unusual amount of activity; troll pilgrims from near and far have been witnessed gathering up all their treasure and heading towards the temple in the wilderness, to pay their respects of the Troll God Afnar. Even more unnerving is the fact that not only trolls, but goblins, orcs, hobgoblins, and even ogres have all been seen flocking towards the Troll’s God’s fane. Normally the Green Races don’t work together very well, so anything that can not only successfully unite them, but cause them to display organization not normally seen from chaotic creatures like trolls, is worrisome indeed! The players not only have the threat of a unified Green Races army to worry about, but it seems that Afnar has a few plans as well; plans that even his troll priests don’t know about….
The adventure is designed for four to six characters of levels four to seven; like Fortress of the Ogre Chieftain, I found that Temple of the Troll God requires a balanced party, though again the emphasis lies squarely upon the broad shoulders of those with combat ability. Players should also hope to high heaven that a great many healing spells and devices are present in the party – they’ll without a doubt be needed. Squeamish GMs like myself may want to read this adventure with care; trolls are not known for their genteel habits or civilized manners, and many of the behaviors they exhibit in this adventure (described in loving detail by Timothy Brown) will make even a strong gamer blanch. Like its predecessor, Temple of the Troll God has a prequel adventure available for downloading at Fast Forward’s web site (www.fastforwardgames.com ) and also like Fortress, there are full-color versions of all maps ready to be printed out by anyone with a color printer. Again neither the prequel scenario nor the color maps are required for full enjoyment of this adventure module; they are merely presented as easy option to enhance this already exciting and enjoyable adventure.
