Review of Rokea

Goto [ Index ]
This is a book about sharks. Not the big mindless brutes as depicted in Jaws, but his bigger brothers. You're not safe when you get out of the water, these sharks will follow you on land! Rokea is the eighth breed book from White Wolf, and it tells us all about the Rokea, the weresharks.

The book is laced with cleverly constructed stories to give you a feel for playing a Rokea, as well as a decent amount of rules to boot. First off, you've got a decent blood n' guts graffic story, followed by a written piece which documents the history of the world from a Rokea slant.

Next up comes all the information you could ever want about their society, and attitudes. This second section also tells us about their abilities, and how they differ from the Garou. It tells us of their attitude towards the other changing breeds, and to humankind in general.

The real meaty stuff comes next, with all the information needed to create a Rokea character, including soom pretty neat gifts, as well as some laughably improbable ones. See "Overseas gift" for a real laugh.

I mean - flying forty foot sharks. You're having a laugh! They finish up with GM notes on the Rokea, a sample story, and a few characters to boot.

The artwork is impressive, with some pretty gruesome pics to really get your teeth into.

My only gripe with this excellent book, is the attitude towards mixing characters with werewolves. It seems to be under the strange impression that Rokea would not mix well if played alongside the Garou. I beg to differ. I've been playing a Rokea character as a character in a werewolf game, and have managed to rise to the rank of pack alpha, and not through pure strengh and intimidation either!

So, how would I rate this book? A hefty 9 out of 10

Well done White Wolf.
