Review of Swordfish
I'm not going to put spoilers in this review, so it's going to be very short. This is a very visual movie, and I imagine its best seen in theater, on those huge screens. Sit back, enjoy the eye candy, and try to pay attention to what's going on, rather than the distractions. In short, this is a very good movie if you like action flicks. The visuals are superb, the sound effects, while not exceptional, are satisfactory, and the music is cool.
The acting is solid, the characters are well-played, and the writing is good. All in all, Swordfish is a keeper.
So, if it was so good, why am I only giving it a 2 for substance? Ultimately, there's just not that much to it. It looks great and it's fun to watch, but that's it. It certainly doesn't provoke thought.
P.S. Some friends have advised me that I should mention that the "virus" (I thought it was a worm?) is apparently programmed on AUTOCAD, and that this is very lame (I thought it looked kind of cool, personally). I guess that means all computer-type folks everywhere are going to scream in pain, like vampires in sunlight, at the blasphemousness of it.
