Review of Age of Heroes

Another AD&D clone? Maybe - but this one has a lot more class than the game which birthed it. Born out of necessity and frustration (as noted by the author), this game is a good example of why gamers shouldn't ignore freepress games.
Building on the basic fundamentals of AD&D, Age of Heroes adds new dimension to what has largely been a 2D gaming experience. For those of us who yearned for versimilitude in combat while playing AD&D - it's here. For those of us who yearned for a few original character classes - they're here. For those of us who wanted a game that played like AD&D, but had originality, game balance, and depth - this is it.
I've looked at and purchased many different fantasy game systems in my recent quest for a quality, adaptable, and believable fantasy game - and until I found this gem, my money and my time had been vastly wasted.
If you have a chance to download this game - do it. If you can spend the $6.00 to have it printed out and bound - do that, too. If you pass it up - well... DON'T DO THAT!
Incidentally, if you think this is just another supplement of house rules for AD&D, think again - this is a full fledged game. It can and does stand on its own. This is a commercial quality game - available for free. That's what REALLY blew me away:
Here's a game that manages to accomplish all of the things which AD&D utterly failed to achieve - and it's free.
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 3 (Average)
