Review of Crimson Skies

An alternate Earth, An America Shattered, and warriors of the Air stalking the Earth. This is the setting for FASA's Crimson skies. A game of arial combat in an alternate 1937. While this game is up to FASA's normal high standards, there are a few things to point out.

The boxed set is rather nice (and for $35 I'd hope it was!) it includes the traditional hex maps, rulebooks (cleverly disguised as "Air Action Weekly" a digest magazine of airial combat news!) a set of cardboard counters (which are a pain in the glutius maximus to assemble!) one die and a plastic damage template!

The rules are well written and organized and the making them look like a set of magazines does not subtract from the rules clarity or descriptive power. One small thing though: the rules are modifed from the old FASA game Renegade Legion Centurion! The damage system is exactly the same (different weapons though) while it is not a direct rip off by any means, any one who has played Centurian should have no problem understanding Crimson Skies at all!!

The game play is fast and furious, it took us less than an hour for a quick dogfight. But I would recomend buying the metal figs they are just easier to put together and store than the cardboard planes in the box!

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
