Review of Where Heroes Fear To Tread
This short fantasy rpg adventure takes place in the campaign world of, and provides stats for the "light" version, of the newest edition of Chivalry & Sorcery. With a glossy cardboard cover and all B&W art, this 5"x8" staple bound book is well formatted. GM narration is highlighted inside gray boxes to separate them from GM only/game information.
Any small band of low level to moderate level characters will find this scenario a challenging diversion. The players are hired by a religious fighting order to deliver a ransom for a young knight, initiate to their order, and other pilgrims taken prisoner by a band of goblins and dark elves. The ransom is a magic dragon sized ring, reported to give the wearer the power to control dragons, though no one can say how/if it works. A few minor encounters and the players are escorted to the kidnappers' master where they learn more about the ring they carry and why it was chosen as the ransom payment. Successful adventurers receive a just in time backup from the religious order but only after they have completed their mission.
Not a bad little adventure, I tried not to spoil it, for $2.50. Mine came with my copy of the Origins award winning 300th issue of Alarums & Excursions (in fact I ordered 2 copies of the landmark 25th anniversary issue so I have an extra adventure available for trade). As they have run out of their supply, new orders for #300 come with a copy of A&E #1, you'll have to contact Brittannia Game Designs to locate a copy of, Where Heroes Fear To Tread, yourself (Marakush@aol.com).
