Review of Nephilim Character Dossiers

Reviewing character sheets, in this case the "Nephilim Character Dossiers", is difficult. Yes, they're pretty, leave little spaces for all the stats, and have a nice pentegram... but are they worth buying? The best criteria are their price, their layout, and whether they surpass those you can photocopy from the main rule book. The price, for eight two-page double-sided sheets, on very nice paper stock with evocative bordering detail, is a pricey $8.95. As a bonus, the wrapper does includes the rulebook's neat, clean character creation flowchart, so your players can quickly get started. The layout is crist and spacious, divided by page as follows. Page one concerns character details, history, metamorphosis, and the optional illustration or personal symbol-- all the 'life' information. Page two is character statistics and skills (the numbers). Page three handles magic, with the full Pentacle of Opposition as well as room to write down the actual spell lists. Page four provides room to write details of the current adventure, as well as Stasis details and past awakenings. A nice addition is room for their "Chinese Portrait" in the 'life' section, those "If I were a..." questions that help evoke the image of your Nephilim. The Elemental Correpondences are also written out on the magic page, a worthwhile addition. The organization is much better than the cramped two and a half pages from the rulebook, and their paper quality clearly surpasses simple photocopying. But, I am hesitant to suggest you rush out and spend over a buck a character for them. Photocopying pages 19-20 (stats and magic), page 67 (life details), and the one-page Metamorphosis for your character (page 31-39) at your local library at a quarter a page gives you more information for the same price (albiet on cheaper stock). Without a radically improved layout and lacking additional material, I'd recommend saving your money for Nephilim sourcebooks, although a gaming group that decided to pool its money could certainly get their dollar's worth over the course of a long campaign.
