Review of Adam's Wrath

Goto [ Index ]
"Adam's Wrath" is a adventure module written for TSR's Ravenloft world for the AD&D game. It is the "Frankenstein" of AD&D, and deals with the mad Dr. Victor Mordenheim and his creation, the title character "Adam." The players are led through several well-designed and often unique adventure areas, including one place where they are all killed and resurrected as golems! (WARNING FOR DMS: While an excellent adventure, this is not a recommended module for players who do not like having their characters killed and changed into other forms without a chance to avoid this, because the players MUST die and be brought back as golems for the adventure to continue.) As usual for her adventures, Lisa Smedman's room descriptions are very well written - often better than some recent novelists have described rooms. One *slight* thing that Ravenloft purists may dislike is that occasionally Lisa will say something like "flesh golems" when the Ravenloft purist would *describe* the golems at that point instead of just telling what they are, but this is very minor and besides, ALWAYS describing something out, particularly to the experienced players that Ravenloft is designed for, could start to get boring and pedantic, so Lisa was, in my opinion right in sometimes just saying "flesh golem" at times. The mood of dread, of greatest importance to Ravenloft, is maintained throughout. An additional plus for the DM who gets to read the module (players should NEVER read the modules, ESPECIALLY Ravenloft ones), is the quotes that head each chapter of the module, including ones by Wordsworth and Browning. In total, one of the best AD&D adventures.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 5 (Excellent!)
