Review of GURPS Egypt
Goto [ Index ] |
There's all sorts of stuff in this book. It includes a nice summary of the daily life and culture of ancient Egypt. This material has plenty of hooks for gaming, and includes information for judges that will help to establish differences between this alien land and our own. Nearly half of the book is taken up with a dynastic history of ancient Egypt, and while this may seem overblown I find it to be a nice historical resource. I have many books on Egypt, yet precious few of them summarize history as well as this game book did. There's also character information, spells, campaign stuff...about the only thing that's lacking is extensive information regarding Egyptian religion. That is the major disappointment of this book. We are given enough information about the historical life of the Egyptions to be able to place a campaign well, but there is less information about their spiritual lives...or the lives of their Gods.
I may quibble about some of the emphases of the author, but this is a very good book. It gets an "A." I do not feel that there is a better gaming reference for Egypt on the market, and in some ways this bests other more mainstream references for the quality of its information and writing.
Style: 5 (Excellent!)
Substance: 4 (Meaty)
