Review of Kolchak: Devil in the Details
I more than likely will present spoilers to this comic book; those wishing an unspoiled read of it should look elsewhere. I’m not too familiar with Kolchak, so information gleaned about the character’s background comes from the SciFi channel’s web page. Trevor Von Eeden has the illustration credits for this book.

Carl Kolchak is a fictional detective that finds his roots in ‘70s made-for-television movies. Created by Jeff Rice, Kolchak’s an almost-science fiction character that explores the edges of explorative fiction. Even though he dealt with man-killing robots and mummies in his weekly series, Kolchak didn’t explore to far in the realm of speculative writing for fear of alienating the sponsors. Kolchak had a single season, but spawned a following that continues to explore his reporting for his news agency.

Devil in the Details presents an updated Kolchak investigating a missing persons case for his boss, Tony Vincenzo, at the Los Angeles Dispatch. What follows from the simple case is a trip into a “weird tale.” Updated by Petrucha, the story fits our new world order, ties into the research of nanotech (and the classic concept of why we should fear it), and gives Kolchak a chance to shine in the eyes of the readers. Some may wonder the hows and whys of the Kolchak character, but past information doesn’t really matter as the story presents a look into the “man vs. machine” concept that is a scifi staple.

Overall, this comic is a solid tale, presented in full color, that is a worth a look.
