Why?
We all have dice. We all need something to haul them around in. My dad didn’t drink Crown Royal, so I had to buy my dice bags. Which sort of gave me the idea to review them. This is the second in a series of at least three.
My old stand by has always been a largish leather dice bag from Chessex that I got at GenCon 1994. Then in a bit of curiosity I requested a couple of the dice bags from Palladium Books in their X-Mas Grab Bag a couple years back. I was pleasantly surprised.
The Details
The Palladium dice bag is a zip topped 4.5” x 6.5” nylon bag with a thick nylon loop where a belt clip is attached. The nylon feels a little thin, but has resisted the sharp corners of Gamescience dice…as much a proof of durability for a dice bag I suppose. I have been using my two dice bags for a couple of years and they still look as good as they did when I received them. I especially like the zipper opening since it secures the dice better than a drawstring. The clip is good for securing to your gaming backpack/bag/tote/etc. The bag design is definitely different then the leather or crown royal bags out there on the gaming tables.
Palladium’s dice bag comfortably holds 81 dice without being stuffed. I could probably squeeze in a few more dice, but as I maybe use 10-12 dice in a game session it would be bigger overkill that lugging around that many dice already.
There are a couple of graphics to choose from for the front of the dice bag. I chose the Palladium Fantasy logos on my bags, given that is the only series of their’s I currently follow. There is also a Rifts logo, if that is more your speed. I might have liked no Palladium logos as an option. There are also a number of colors to choose from, I have burgundy/white and black/red. The black/red is the nicer looking of the two, but they are distinct enough that they are unlike any dice bags my fellow gamers have.
The Tests
As with my last review, I took a few minutes and did some stress testing of Palladium’s dice bag.
Test 1, the five foot drop: No problems
Test 2, the fifteen foot drop: Again no problems
Test 3, the side impact: Threw the dice bag into my couch downstairs, no worries
Test 4: the squeeze: The nylon and zipper held
Test 5: the squish: Using my size 12 feet I stepped on the bag, everything held
All tests passed with flying colors, this bag will certainly hold dice in even the most adverse gaming conditions.
Summation
The Palladium dice bag is a good dice bag and distinct from most of the other ones out there on the market. The zipper design and clip are good for securing dice and the bag, respectively. It performed perfectly in the testing and looks great.
I have only seen it for sale on Palladium’s website (www.palladiumbooks.com), which is a knock. When you add on shipping could be one of the more spendy dice bags you have bought.
