Review of Power Corrupts
Introduction

Power Corrupts is the first Mutants and Masterminds Superlink product, where third party publishers produce material for Green Ronin's excellent superhero roleplaying game. It is a collection of new powers that enhances the choices available to players and GMs.

Appearance

Power Corrupts has decent (but not fantastic) art throughout, good layout and clear typography. Its appearance is of a higher standard than most other roleplaying PDF downloads that I have purchased, such as Lightspeed or the Traveller’s Aides.

Content

The product contains a total of 50 new powers, some of which seem really powerful (Atomic Control) but are priced accordingly. My group hasn’t experimented with any if them yet, so I can’t speak to whether they are entirely balanced.

Some off the new powers I really like, such as Nano-machines (making it easier to model characters like the Engineer) but there are others which probably belong in the province of GM only tools, like Determine Destiny.

A number of the new powers seem inspired by specific comic book characters, such as Imbue Energy (Gambit), Danger Sense (Spiderman), Confession Burn (Spectre), and these make useful models for other related powers.

I know they’re not entirely the norm in PDF products, but I wish the author had included either a contents page or an index to assist navigation.

The text is specific to M&M, and I don't think it would be very useful to players of other superhero rpgs.

Conclusion

For its price, Power Corrupts represents excellent value and I would recommend anyone running Mutants and Masterminds to pick it up. It demonstrates that this is a system that takes additions easily, and helps showcase its versatility.

I look forward to similar future releases.

The PDF is available from RPGnow.com for $5.00 US (roughly $9.00 Australian).
