This obscure RPG originally written in German and ported by Teal Monkey Games is what so many have tried to be before it, and many that have come after. But what it truly does is benefit from a crisp translation.
THE STORY
The story is immense, and takes up a good 60% of the book. War has come again to Europe, only this time a darker force is pulling the strings as society loses the very thing it holds dear, it's children! Taken away in the night and genetically altered, they are then set loose upon the world by their captors.
Armies of these "Nien Skopptulen" live within the sewers at night, and emerge only to destroy those that brought them into the world. Soon insanity sets in among the leaders of many European nations as looting and horror is loosed upon the world and they find they are defenseless to stop it.
That is where the PC's come in! Part of an underground organisation dedicated to ensuring the 5th prophecy comes to pass, and the Skopptulen are brought to justice.
THE MECHANICS
The game runs on a simple percentile system for hits and misses. Skills are attained through kills, the more merciful the kill, the more skill points are awarded. The game runs very fluid due to the simple percentile system, and brings the game full circle with it's contemporaries such as Dark Night at Kaleva.
Resolution is also allowed using a 3-card method substituting a D30 for simple tasks such as piloting and running. Game play is smooth to the extent that an average game can be over in an hour or so with a party of 8.
CONCLUSION
Worth picking up? Yes. Worth throwing away those dusty books on your shelf? Perhaps. But is it truly worth your hard earned cash? Well, there's only one way to find out.
