Pandoramicum is the story of a wayward little girl raised in the tower of Raguelite Engel. Lâle has followed her brother after he was given in her village’s tithing to the Raguelites. Its been five years since she’s hide herself away in the tower and now things are occurring in the land surrounding her that action is called for. The Engel of the tower go to an incoming Inferno—unholy fire that sweeps the land—and fight the outpouring Dreamseed that pulse within the Inferno’s reaches.
Lâle and her brother Raven (now an Engel named Rabiel) haven’t seen eye to eye for over four years and now that the Inferno is destined to annihilate the tower, he wants her safe. She has other ideas, as she wishes her brother safe from the manipulation of the tower.
This book has a double meaning. Pandoramicum also is the name of an ancient artifact that stems from Biblical Times (it was sounded at the Walls of Jerico and over Sodom and Gomorrah) and a Wanderer entrusts it to Lâle to save the Raguelite’s secret as the Inferno washes over the tower.
The story isn’t the easiest to follow, as we’re inundated with a little bit of detail of the Engel setting. Angels, sacrifices, dreamseed, etc. make for a difficult 48 pages to get into, but as a teaser trailer for the setting, it just may work. I can see gamemasters handing this over to players as a quick introduction into Engel instead of having them buy a full rulebook.
Doubling Pandoramicum as a comic makes this book easy to pass on to non-gaming friends who like science fiction or fantasy (even both, as the story doesn’t have to fit into a far future setting). The events of the comic, or the story’s pacing, may make for an interesting addition to the Engel roleplaying game, or any other fantasy setting that needs a little kick.
I enjoyed the comic and feel that it is best suited to getting players engaged in the Engel setting as well as those looking to take an interesting break from regular comics.
