Review of Faith of Sigmar

Goto [ Index ]

Faith of Sigmar is a print-on-demand product provided by Fantasy Flight Games for the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition game.

The product is a deck of twenty standard size cards sold in a plastic blister pack. The product provides new spells and items for priests of Sigmar. They layout and design of the cards is FFG's normal high quality. The only difference you'll note is that these cards have a smooth texture unlike the slight weave on earlier releases.

The cards include rule elements that are being added to the game in Hero's Call expansion. An Epic trait is added for some action cards that may not be used by those below Rank 5. Inherent Difficulty adds additional difficulty modifiers to action cards in the form of failure and bane results that are added to the results of the dice roll. And Mastery gives rules for what happens when a character of 4th rank trains a skill that already has been trained three times.

Content wise, three of the cards are reserved for instructions and credits, as well as the front and back package designs.

Two of the cards are magic items, the Holy Pendant of Sigmar and a Blessed Warhammer. Both of these give bonuses that are only really useful for a Sigmarite character.

The main attraction are the fifteen new spells, which provide something for all ranks of Sigmarites.

  1. Sigmar's Benediction (rank 1)
  2. Bolster the Spirit (rank 1)
  3. Sigmar's Wroth (rank 1)
  4. Sigmar's Protection (rank 1)
  5. Fires of Faith (rank 2)
  6. Fearsome Prayer (rank 2)
  7. Healing Fist (rank 2)
  8. Flames of Purity (rank 3)
  9. Mark of Zealous Faith (rank 3)
  10. Sigmar's Smite (rank 3)
  11. Shining Example (rank 4)
  12. Suffer Not the Witch (rank 4)
  13. Hammer of Purity (rank 4)
  14. Omen of the Comet (rank 5)
  15. Echo of Apotheosis (rank 5)

I ordered the cards and they arrived within a week. I believe the print-on-demand option is an excellent way for FFG to provide specifically targetted bonus material that not every WFRP3e group will want or need. I'm looking forward to seeing what other POD sets they add to the lineup.
