Belegast the Bloodthirsty is one of the first miniatures out of the new miniature company, Red Box Games. Founded by Tre Manor, one of Reaper Miniatures fame, Tre brings Belegast to the table as part of his Heroes line of Red Box figures and more specifically, part of the Yrrskaggi Hordesman faction, an ‘evil’ group of barbarians.

Belegast is a 28mm heroic figure and compares well with other companies in that range from Reaper and Games Workshop to Avatars of War and Heresy. Belegast is cast as a single piece, needing only a base.

Belegast is leading his army by pointing the way with his trusty single edged battle axe. His armored horn helmed conceals his features. His shield and axe have notches in them. The back of his fur cloak is adorned with the bones of those he’s slain. The fur glad boots are covered by plates of armor. The figure has a lot of details going on ranging from the skull and bones under his girdle to the nicks in the shield.

In terms of miniature use, he’d be perfect for using as a leader in a Mauraders of Chaos army , a barbarian hero in a D&D campaign, or more than likely, an enemy solo or leader in a D&D campaign. I’m thinking of getting another one so that I can have one for my Marauders and another for role playing purposes.

In terms of miniature preparation:

Flash: None.

Vents/Flak: One piece of excess material on the shield. Easy to remove.

Mold Lines: Faint mold line down the top center of the figure running from arm to arm. Easy to get at for the most part, but part of that winds through some of the figure’s ‘spikeness’ and users should take care if using a blade not to cut themselves or lop off a spike.

Value: At $9.99, with the ever increasing price of metal, Belegast is priced at the low end of individual miniatures in comparison to Freebooter and Avatars or War and about average with compared to Hasslefree and Heresy. For an individual figure from Games Workshop, most like Crom or a Champion of Chaos run $15.

Belgast has a place at the head of any invading barbarian horde for games like Rusting Heroes and Warhammer or any RPG where the characters either are the top of the food chain (Player’s Handbook 2 for 4e will have the barbarian class) or are going to find out if they’re the top of the food chain.
