There's something rotten...
One slim but very good looking volume is the adventure The Pig, the Witch and her Lover that I picket up at free rpg day. Sturdy cardstock cover, printed in color and insides profusely illustrated with pictures of NPC's and pre-generated characters. A very attractive package tempting any gamer that have put off trying Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. The only thing I'm missing is the free rpg day logo, which seems to be missing. I looked at all the 16 pages.
The adventure is of a investigative nature, and I'll state from the start that I think the possibility of my players putting the pieces together is pretty slim. Maybe the gamers I'm play with are better investigators than I think, or gamers are in general, but I found the clues provided for the missing person mystery to be a bit sparse. not having tried the adventure for real I can only conclude that in reading it looks like a tough call.
The chewy part of the ham
Let us not despair. Even if your players are as dense as me you will probably have fun with this title. There are a lot of colorful personalities to interact with and they are just the kind of dirtfarmers with dark secrets you expect in a Warhammer scenario. It is well presented with "What She Knows" and "What She will tell the PCs" and similar paragraphs. Sometimes it even instructs you to look up a page in the rulebook for some skill check or other. I gather any new gamer who fancies himself a GM would do well with this kit. There is even a section per NPC telling you how to roleplay that character. I think anyone could have fun just walking around in the small village of Krote and encountering odd people like the mayor, the priest and the hunter.
Alas, the world is out of joint
Considering the amount of violence pictured in the minis games in the Warhammer universe, I'm almost a bit surprised and dissapointed by the fact that there are so few possibilities for fighting in the adventure. That's possibly the only thing lacking in this module, even though the possibility is there. Another odd lack is any kind of credits for the adventure so it's very anonymous. I think this is an peculiar disrespect for the work of the author, illustrator and editor and I hope it's just an oversight.
A World of Perilous Adventure!
Any Warhammer product is pretty, but none the less it is worth praising if it also makes the product easy to use and I give this module a 5 for Style. A small minus for the lack of credits. The content given is great, you even get a pre-generated character who is a rat catcher, and very atmospheric. Thus it deserves a solid 5 for Substance as well! I think it is a bit too tough a mystery, but let us not mention that as a minus, but a lack on my part.Watch out for that mean pig!
