Review of Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes
Trollkin trace their history on sacred monuments called krielstones. These krielstones are inscribed with Molgur runes that depict past heroic acts. Even though most are too large to transport, the strongest trollkin amongst a kith often carry smaller ones into battle. Imbued with mystical power, such rocks are reservoirs for warlocks, enhancing the effectiveness of nearby trollkin.

The Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes blister was originally announced as a boxed set, but now includes the necessary three scribes instead of two even though the packaging is smaller. The centre piece model is the krielstone bearer, a muscular, broad-shouldered model. This trollkin is slightly larger than the scribes that accompany him, consisting of three parts (the model and a two-piece krielstone with hands) and a base. His muscle definition is excellent, even though this is not the best-detailed miniature in the Hordes range. Cool-looking rules have been grafted onto the rock and the parts fit together nicely. Putty will have to be used to fill in the gaps, though.. Some mould lines are visible, but only slightly.

One of the scribes holds an axe in both hands. He has some interesting details, even though his face looks a little flat. The scribe wears a robe, but apparently also has some armour underneath. He also carries several scrolls. This model only consists of two parts (the body and his hands, carrying an axe), which is a good thing.

The other two scribes are – unfortunately – identical. They have been sculpted well, down to their bracelets and scrolls. Their skin looks slightly less well-developed, though. Both models consist of two parts: the body and a hand holding the axe.

Unfortunately, no data cards were included in our blister, and neither were quick start rules. Obviously, anyone fielding these models will also have a warlock, so rules aren’t necessary at all, but as datacards are incorporated into the game, it’s a shame a blister with four models doesn’t include any while boxed sets with just as many miniatures inside do.

However, the special rules for krielstone bearers and their scribes are a lot of fun, as the krielstone can store one fury point for each model in the unit. A single fury point may be spent to raise a protective aura. If the bearer would normally killed and fails a Tough roll, a stone scribe within 3” may be removed instead. Also, both the krielstone bearer and his scribes are fearless and never flee.

Neither the krielstone bearer nor his scribes are the best-looking models within the Hordes range, but the bearer still is very cool. Despite the absence of any datacards and the inclusion of two identical models, the rules for these models are so much fun that they are a must-have for Hordes players.
