Mad Rogat is another entry in the Dwarves line by Freebooter Miniatures. This piece comes in seven parts.
The base is two parts. The bottom square piece and the detailed topping. The top in this case is minimum and appears to be stonework. It has two punched slots for Rogat’s feet. Due to the stance of the figure, there is only one way for the mad dwarf to be placed onto the slot. The good news is that the dwarf fits without a hitch into the slot.
On one sprue, we have his right arm, wings for his helm, and what appears to be a dead rat.
The main body of the d warf has a lot of detail. While his feat are bear, he wears a helmet. While his right eye is wide open over his snarling beard covered mouth, his left eye has a patch over it. His left arm reaches out with his heavy hammer with a single rune standing out on each side. His gut hangs free from his studded leather armor and his belt is of course buckled.
The right arm is similar to the left in that it too wields a hammer. However, his should here is protected with a should piece.
The wings for the helm have a lot of feathery detail in them. Some may want to pin the wings to the helm, but careful filling and gluing, should suffice for most table top games as long as the figure is not grabbed by the wings afterwards. The wings are large and give the figure a “bigger” look than he actually has.
The dead rat is a bit entertaining. The rear of the figure has a slot for the rat to be attached to and it can be pinned, glued, or filled with putty and left off altogether.
This is one of the styles of figures I’m used to from Freebooter. It has a feel of action, as if the character were getting ready to leap at whatever foe dared move in front. By having the right arm separated, it allows the designer to avoid that dreaded one arm pointing out phase that I’ve seen a thousand times. It’s okay for the first few miniatures to have this look of calling out their enemy across the battlefield, but it’s nice to see Rogat in a rage and getting ready to charge forward.
