Dark Elf Sorceress FB-DUN005 Sculpted By: Werner Klocke

This is a five piece figure. The base, like all of the Freebooter bases, comes in two pieces. The bottom part is the square base while the top part is scenery. This is one of the areas where Freebooter being an independent miniature company, is able to soundly trash almost every other miniature company in terms of consistency in their bases.

For example, Reaper’s Dark Haven line occasional has a base with some fantastic detail in it. But there is no consistency outside of the ‘broccoli’ style bases that the Dark Haven line is known for. A base so unloved that even on their official webpage the painted images will often have the base submerged into a square base.

In this case, it’s a simple base of four skulls turned in to face the center of the base. The center is opened with a slot for the figure to be placed. As the figures legs are pressed together in her stance, this one slot is all that’s needed.

In looking over flash, the figure only has a slight bit on the bottom base. In terms of mold lines, the is a very faint line bisecting the figure. It flows down both sides of the figure, but is very faint.

The main body of the figure is a blind elf clad in tight leathers. Her right arm comes straight down. Her face is blindfolded. Her hair is pulled back into a ponytail that rises than falls. There is a lot of detail in the figure ranging from straps and buckles to laces. The figure does not however, have that accentuated details that some figures might have, so drybrushing in this case would not be your best bet.

Instead ,like figures in the Spycraft line, it would be best to use highlighting techniques to pull out the details.

The second piece is her right hand. This hand is clenching a staff. This staff is covered in meticulous detail with dozens of knots waiting to be picked out.

The right arm is bent towards her face like she were a falconer. Instead of a bird of prey however, she has a sitting imp looking into her blindfolded face.

For me, the figure is unusual in comparison to other Freebooter miniatures in that the fold are minimized. It’s also very easy to assemble and is missing a ‘second’ piece. For example, the young wizard miniature by Freebooter has a scroll carrier. The female pirate has a goblin carrying her weapons. That’s okay though as this makes the miniature a quick and easy winner in getting a miniature to the table and with her elf looks, she makes a great dark elf wizardess..
