Review of Cernan
Cernan Sculpted by K. Contos Distributed by Lance and Laser Inc www.lance-and-laser.com Penumbra Line $6.99

The Cernan is a humanoid figure with the head of a stag with huge antlers. The figure has two weapons, a spear and a wooden club. Coming in four parts, the figure consist of the main body, which is the head, arms, and legs, two separate antlers and a metal slotted base. In 28mm terms, the figure would stand about seven feet tall.

The creature almost appears to be a beast of chaos from the Warhammer line, with brown fur covering it’s face, chest, and spine. It wears layers of hide armor. It’s knees and bent, like an animal’s knees would be. The spear appears to be made of stone, lending the figure a primitive stance. Because of its powerful frame and its two weapon stance, the cernan would be a great substitute for a beastman champion.

The antlers have small slots to slide them into the head of the cernan. Because the ears are the start of the horns, it’s easy to insure that you’re putting the right horn in the right side of the creature’s head.

In terms of its role-playing origins, as a creature from the Fantasy Bestiary, it comes close but fails. The illustration in the book has the creature with normal human legs and hide boots. This figure’s hoofs and bent legs, while well done, do not match the origin source.

In terms of flash, there’s some at the end of the stone spearhead that easily comes off. There was also some at the base of the club and the slot where the creature is placed into the heavy metal base. Mold lines are faintly visible on the bared parts of the creature’s upper arms.

Because of it’s animal nature, this would make a great beastman, a were creature of some sort, or a perfect encounter for a fey creature of some sort. If using Heroes of Horror, it could work as a medium sized aspect of the new god, Cas, the moose headed god of spite.
