Review of GARKAIN
GARKAIN Sculpted by K Contos Distributed by Lance And Laser, Inc www.lance-and-laser.com Penumbra Line Three Piece Figure $7.99

The Garkain is a winged predator that originates from the Atlas’ book, Fantasy Bestiary. The creature looks similar to a giant bat with huge wings spreading out from its main body. Its face has a mouth rounded with sharp fangs. While it has no arms, it uses its mouth to grab and devour its prey.

The miniature representing it comes in three pieces. The main body has the wings raised, the fanged face with its pointed ears facing forward. The piece ends with the ribcage where a square slot lines up with the next piece, the lower part of the body, which is perched atop a tree. The clawed feet are gripped different branches and its tail is extended back, resting against another part of the tree.

The tree itself is a leafless husk with moss and vines carved into it. The base of the tree is littered with things like a skull and bones.

The base of the figure is metal. It’s a good thing too as the figure when perched atop the tree is a bit heavy and a plastic base might not hold it unless it was reinforced with some weight. That step is unnecessary here though.

There were a few pieces of flash that had to be removed. The spines on the wings in particular had a few pieces that have to be clipped as opposed to my normal removal with nail. The mold lines on the figure are sometimes in bad spots like on the left leg underneath the main body. Hard to get to because of the positioning of the tree itself. Others are in great spots, like the one at the top of the legs and tail as it is covered when the main body is attached to the figure.

This creature makes a great variant gargoyle, vampire in bat form, or some other winged horror that the players aren’t expecting to swoop on down.

The size of the figure, with the tree and two-part monster, is a good deal at $7.99.
