REVIEW OF DREAD WRAITH
Dread Wraith Sculpted by K. Contos Distributed by Lance and Laser www.lance-and-laser.com 2 piece 28 mm figure $7.99

The Dread Wraith is a lantern bearing incorporeal undead, the type made famous by the Lord of the Rings movies. Standing at approximately seven to eight feet tall in 28mm, the Dread Wraith towers over the official version of the Ring Wraiths for a much smaller price. The two pieces consist of the Dread Wraith proper and it’s metal tabbed base, which has a vertical slit as opposed to a straight slit down the middle.

This undead is a mass of robes. Its hooded head holds no face but rather is an empty slot. It’s gloved hands have the right hand pointing off in the distance and the left hand holding it’s dreaded lantern, a lantern filled with negative green energy that oozes forth from a skull. The details in the robe are fantastic and the sculptor has done a tremendous job of bringing out the figure by making the robes in motion and giving them a good feeling of fullness.

One of the things I like about the figure is that it’s also simple. While the details in the robe are fantastic, there aren’t a ton of little knick-knacks and belts and pouches. Rather we have the robes, a belt separating the top and bottom, the gloves, and the lantern with its flame and skull opening.

In terms of flash, the only bits I found on this figure were on the bottom of the lantern. The mold lines are barely visible on the top part of the figure and only in good light. On the bottom of the arms though, where the detail comes to the bottom of the robe, it’s a little more visible but you’d have to be looking hard for it and it would pass any casual inspection.

The Dread Wraith has a lot of potential uses. From it’s core use as an undead from the Fantasy Bestiary by Atlas in it’s Penumbra line, to an undead giant from the Diamond Throne setting by Monte Cook, it’s larger size makes it a good candidate for a boss level spectral undead and its skull lantern will provide plenty of fright for players in time for Halloween.
