Extreme Vengeance Extreme Vengeance

Do you role-play weekly, running angsty characters in a world of darkness? Running superheroes holding up law and order? Running gold hungry, technology inhibited denizens of a fantasy middle age? I bet that sometimes you would like to just step back and let loose, no worries of what is right or wrong, no worries about story, just action, action, action! If this happens and you enjoy beer n' pretzel role-playing then you should have fun with Extreme Vengeance.

Theme
The game takes place in the 'tongue in cheek' world of action movies. You, as a player, role-play one of those unsung, barely acting, pumped up, bad guy stomping action heroes. You get to blow things up, kill bad guys, blow more things up, and do it in an entertaining fun manner, while looking good and wowing the audience and gaining popularity.

Character Creation
Characters in Extreme Vengeance are defined by Guts (action, physical, manliness), Coincidence (luck, fortune), Repertoire (presence, bad stuff, shticks), and Popularity (experience.). You design your characters by combining a descriptor (Maverick, Acrobatic, etc.) with a designator (Agent, Cop, etc.) These two define your character giving them Guts, Coincidence and Repertoire.

Doing Stuff
Everything is done my rolling your action dice. The number of dice rolled is dependent on your Guts, how well you describe what you do (Boo, Yawn, Cheer, Encore) and the type of character you are going against (extra, supporting cast, feature.) A matrix that is provided lets you know how many dice you get to roll. The higher the total the better your character performs the action described. If a character is testing versus the GM or another player the one that has the higher total wins. Coincidence and Repertoire are used to help set or change scenes.

The Look
The book runs about 75 pages in length. Interior art is mostly line drawings that look somewhat amateurish. The cover is nice, but could use a lot more color and explosions. The writing is somewhat humorous and fun to read in some sections. It also has different matrices and charts to create instant plots, as well as some pages with things to photocopy and use on a table for cheap props.

The Game
Who should by this game? Those that like beer n' pretzel fun games. It would be very difficult to play this game steadily; no campaign would really work. The game appears to be designed for mindless fun action, a good time to get away from serious role-playing and sit back and have a good time.
