A Challenge of Arm's is a generic fantasy adventure (the first installment of the Wolfmoon Adventure Module Series)utilizing a simple system designed to allow easy conversion to other fantasy rpg systems.
With the help of D+D creator Gary Gygax, a fine adventure has been crafted.
A Challenge of Arm's has alot going for it. The characters are all interesting and unique (The one armed thieves guildmaster The Arm; his henchman brainfry, who had a run in with a dragons breath weapon; and the retired pirate Steely Pete, to name a few), and there is a 15 page bestiary which includes several new monsters of note-- such as aquatic goblins known as "mergobs"; the dreaded "porculion", a seemingly the love child of a porcupine and a lion; and "shifter cats", with their ability to mentally project an image of themselves. The adventure also includes 30 player handouts (what player dousn't love a good handout), a complete town, and a map of the kingdom of Argrond. The adventure itself has strengths and weaknesses. Briefly, it involves the pc's stumbling into a political intrigue and their subsequent recruitment at the hands of the local thieves guild and government spy network The Hand. To prove their mettle, they must undergo rigorous training in an underground dungeon complex. There is clearly an interesting storyline underway here, and the dungeon itself is above average and is infact occasionally inspiring. The adventure is on occasion awkward, however, in getting the storyline going--notably in the contrived way in which the characters are forced into the dungeons. Having said that, it should be noted that in the hands of an experianced gm, this problem can easily be ironed out. My gaming group enjoyed themselves immensely, especially as they saw this was merely the beginning of something greater!
