When White Wolf released "Chicago By Night" back in the early '90s, it possessed a level of quality that no other citybook matched. It is the first, and it's still the best. Therefore, it is fitting that the first citybook for the Far East of the World of Darkness equal that quality. Now that the book is on the shelves, there is no doubt that "World of Darkness- Hong Kong" does equal the quality of "Chicago By Night."

The book follows the format established for others in the series. The historical information is plentiful; there's enough to satiate most gamers. The metaphysical information seems weak, but I attribute this to its place in the schedule. I hope that the weaknesses disappear once the rest of the Far East books hit the stands. The NPCs come from all eras, classes and places- including the West- and I like how all of them integrate into a cohesive whole.

This is where the book best matches "Chicago By Night" because, like that book, all of the NPCs have a reason to be in Hong Kong as well as an agenda to follow. The possibilities for a long-term campaign leap from the page and scream into the ears of any reader who will listen. The only bad thing I have to say is that this book requires all five games to accomplish this task, while "Chicago By Night" requires only Vampire. (The converse to this is that by using all five games, the book has five times the utility that its elder counterpart possesses.)

Is there any utility for those who don't use the World of Darkness? You bet there is! Any fan of "Feng Shui" or "Hong Kong Action Theater" should consider getting this book, either to convert it out of the Storyteller system or just as a guidebook to Hong Kong. The same applies to a lot of anime gamers who want to pursue this sort of genre- "Wicked City", "Demon City Shinjuku", "Doomed Megapolos", and others of that ilk all fit well into this book.

White Wolf definite got their act together for this Far East series, and it shows in the quality of their releases. I recommend this book to all who want to set adventures or campaigns in Hong Kong.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
