I received my Review copy of Warhammer Monthly and read it through. Let me first say I was suprised as to what it was. I was expecting it to be a periodical, but I was expecting it to be akin to a magazine with articles, instead it was a comic book with snippets of 4 different stories in it. The four stories are 1)Kal Jerico 2)Lone Wolves 3)Hellbrandt Grimm 4)Slave Break Each Story has a different set of writers and artists, reminding me of Heavy Metal and magazines in that vein.

On Graphic Quality : The first and fourth stories are very much of average comic quality and dare I say it, maybe a step down from what I call average but it does it's job at conveying the story. The second and third stories are done much better and have a much better graphical appeal. They have much more detail in the drawings and as such give a much better feel as to the story it is attempting to convey. One odd, possible editing glitch of the Hellbrandt Grimm story is that the first page is done in two different art styles. The first half in that "average" comic book style whilst the second half and the rest of the story goes to a more pencil drawn style which I like much more.

On Story Quality : Again the first and fourth stories are pretty much standard comic book fare. The stories aren't that suprising and seem somewhat "childish" in design. That could be more due to the artistic quality than actual story I suppose but, it doesn't help in reviewing the stories when each story is only two to three pages long. The second and third stories have a much more adult tone and both deal with murders Albiet Lone Wolves more grimmly than Hellbrandt Grimm.

In Closing : I like the idea of this periodical but I believe there should be a larger page count to be able to tell more of the stories. Having two to three pages for each story really limits what can be discussed and/or explained and greatly limits enjoyment or what I consider value. Also, getting more consistent art quality or should I say styles with the stories might make it more enjoyable, though that bit is just my opinion. I do not know if 3.50 is a good value for this "periodical" I know I wouldn't pay that. If you are a die hard Warhammer fan than it may in fact be it worth it for you but, Joe Consumer may not find anything except a couple of interesting stories.
