Kult has bounced through a few companies, but the actual designers and writers have stayed on track. This mini release, subtitled by me "A Big Piece o' Cardboard", is very stylistic and somewhat quirky. Exactly what one might expect for Kult.

Tossing aside the big piece of cardboard that inexplicably predominates the packaging, one is left with a cross between a sourcebook, a supplement, and a Sandman-esque comic book. From a practical standpoint, the red-blotched pages were a bit hard to read. And, at only 16 pages, the pricing is more akin to comics than RPGs.

The meat of the matter are the Vignettes, along with accompanying NPCs and new spells. For once, I enjoyed the use of fiction in an RPG supplement, because it was so evocative. It was clearly the best way to communicate the conceptual twist of Kult, and was well written to boot.

My one reservation is the price/substance ratio. For a gamer just looking for raw data and material, it's a bit thin. As an art piece, or for the diehard Kult fan, I'd recommend it. Experimental pieces are always worth a shot.

Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 2 (Sparse)
