This product is a good starting scenario for new players of the Judge Dredd d20 system. This scenario is intended for 4-6 rookie judges starting at 2nd level. Nicely laid out with easy to read black and white print with illustrations either from the comics or own art this one is a treat as scenarios go with useful maps laid out for encounters.
Before a mega-ctiy 1 judge is allowed on the street they must spend 15 years of training in the Academy of Law and one of the last things they do before graduating is the FST ( Final Street Test ). A make or break test that if they pass they gain the right to wear the full eagle badge on their chest and become fully fledged judges. Today is the player's FST and a senior judge will oversee their test and grade them. Sadly for the players it is none other than Joe Dredd himself so they'd better wise up and behave or else it's civvy street for them. If your players are used to the typical pillaging antics of D D they're in for a nasty shock as they must uphold the law and not be allowed to run riot. The plot involves investigation of Resyk 44 an industrial recycling plant for human corpses (in Mega-City 1 nothing goes to waste). Organs have been removed from some corpses. From there on the players will uncover a series of clues and hopefully will be able to uncover and arrest those responsible. In the course of their investigations they will have plenty of exciting encounters appropriate to the setting of Judge Dredd. A clash in a local amusement center, dealing with weird mutant life forms are just some of the pleasures awaiting the players. The scenario is written in a straight forward manner that is rail roading them to a degree but unlike some scenarios this one is written in a pleasing logical manner. Players shouldn't notice this too much as they won't be finding themselves very bored for long. With some of the encounters player mortality is a risk but then that's what they have to be prepared to pay in order to wear the badge but hey if you're feeling soft you can tone them down. All in all I am happy with this scenario. Typical humour of Dredd is included (like the one-eyed kaks), the spirit of Dredd comics is captured with it's suitably bizzare aspects (the resyk 44 with all it's corpses) and action (gun fights will ensue). I also like the inclusion of nicely illustrated encounter maps (with no scale but it's easy enough to work out). It makes running encounters a joy. This is a good scenario for beginners and I am more than happy to inflict it upon my group. | |
