Quicklink has taken a page out of AEG's playbook and released a "Lite" varient of their forthcoming rules as a teaser to their fans. The T20-Lite rules allows a new or experienced Traveller player a glimps of what QLI has planned for the book

Overview The T20-Lite rules contains a lot of inofrmation in its 58 pages. Unlike , the designers has only given one character class (the merchant), but they have shown the class in its full range (instead of just one level as seen in Spycraft Lite. I do like the fact that the Classic Traveller (CT) feeling career path system is included, allowing a look and test of generating characters beyond 1st level. There is a good (but incomplete) list of skills and feats, with one noticable point that the Traveller sytle cascade skills are used for D20 skills like Profession, Knowledge and Craft. These Cascades gives the same feal of all other forms of Traveller while keeping within d20 norms.

There is also details of the new combat varients , wich are both able to model modern fire-arm combat and is OGL (unlike the vitality/wounds system used in Spycraft. This chapter is brief, and can cause a pause (as a character hit by fire combat takes poinsts of both Lifeblood and Satmina, the two stats that tracks HP in this game). Armour is well modeled here, and cotains most of the armour found in versions of Traveller (except Battledress, which is reasonable for this release, especially as they focus on the merchant class).

There is also chatpers on Technology, Trade and Commerce (GT:Far Trader fans note: this is CT style trade, no trade routes in sight!) sample vehicles and starships. Also included is a guide to interprate Universal World Profiles, a nice touch to allow new readers access to the wealth of Traveller matrial in print an on the web. Conclusion

The writing style has a touch of humour in it, as well as being "crunchy" in details (but still giving details about the Oficial Traveller universe). It has whetted my apatite for the full rules. I am not sold on the one class teaser, but the fact that the class has details for 1-20 levels make this more usable than for example giving the 6 origional CT Classes for 1st level only.

Is it worth getting. Yes. It allows new d20 players to get a feel of the Traveller system, and allow old Traveller grognards to get a look at a new system befor investing their money into another system (after all, ther has been five preious efforts).
