This is your standard D6 game from West End. The D6 game system started off in Star Wars, and Ghostbusters many years ago, and this is a well-worn system, with most of its rough edges smoothed off. Systemwise this game works, but backgroundwise these guys could have turned the wise-ass down a bit. The way these guys write the book seems more suited to an Ace Ventura movie than MIB, and that's the problem. There's a little too much slapstick, and not enough satire in the package. Its just not enough like the movie to suit me.
If you have to get a MIB type book get "Delta Green" from Pagan Publishing, its the best book for MIB on the planet right now. This book runs a very distant second to "Delta Green," while Steve Jackson's "Black Ops" ain't even in the running at all. It gets a "B." Mostly because everything in the movie seems to be in this book, even if the tone of the book is off, and its using a tried and true system. There shouldn't be any gaping holes in this game, and it seems mostly playable out of the one book-- and that is refreshing.
