This book indicates one of two things to me. Number one, if this book is any indication then C.S. Lewis was write about the ease of writing about demons, and the difficulty of writing about angels. Number two, if John Tynes had written the section about the angelic mind, then that player's guide might have had an entirely different look. Where the angelic guide was vapid and ill-formed this book is magnificent. There's even been a wonderful upgrade in its interior art. If this book is any indication, then Elizabeth's McCoy's efforts as line editor are paying off.
The book starts off with a wonderful story. It continues with some history, and then a short section on the demonic mindset, that is worth the price of the book all by itself. It goes on describing the various demonic bands, leaving the Pachadim, which appeared in "The Marches." Relations with superiors are described, while leaving out superiors which didn't appear in the main rulebook, and various and sundry other things are discussed. As I said before it just expands on material which is found in the main rulebook, but it is missing one significant item. In the section on demonic reproduction it references the Celestial Song of Fruition, which only appears in the Angelic Player's Guide-- ooh, I hate that! This is a good book for Infernal players. I am impressed at how the writing both evokes horror and sympathy for these beings-- horror for their actions, what they want to do to people, and sympathy for their plight. This is a very good book, but gets downgraded for referencing material only found in the angelic guide (it wouldn't have been that hard to include). It gets a "B."
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
