Style: 3 (Average) Substance: 4 (Meaty) All in all Tome of the Dragon is well worth the $10 because it includes not one, but two adventures and two new Prestige Classes to boot! Product: Tome of the Dragon Author: Noah McLaughlin Category: RPG Company/Publisher: Citizen Games Line: D20 - Hero's Journey Cost: 9.95 Page count: 48 Year published: 2002 ISBN: SKU: Comp copy?: no Capsule Review by Darian Voorhees on 05/04/02 Genre tags: Fantasy |
Tome of the Dragon is Citizen Games' third D20 adventure in their Hero's Journey line. While the first two adventures (CIT001 and CIT002) were haphazard at best, the third installment seems to break away from the pack.
The back cover of the module reads: "An ancient evil walks the lands of Myrra once more, the Draconis priest Glymych. In his quest to resurrect his once-banished order of evil priests, Glymych seeks the Librum Draconis, a secret tome that details rites and rituals for summoning and binding the most powerful of all creatures: a dragon! In the long-forgotten ruins of the fortress Gryngurg, Player Characters must brave the denizens of the dungeon, the assassin-priests of Glymych's Order of the Black Hand, and even the wiles and trickery of the Librum itself." Now, I noticed two things immediately. First, there is now Gryngurg fortress in the module. It seems that the name was changed at some point in the "creative process" and no one bothered to tell the marketing guys. Second, the Order of the Black Hand is called the Order of the Black Rose inside the book. Probably same thing that happened with the first mistake. Other than those two things (not related to the adventure itself) I have to say that the adventure was worth the $10 I spent. The main adventure "Tome of the Dragon" was a tough one for my group of players. I won't spoil it for you....let's just say that there are enough "things" to keep your party of characters on their toes. I recommend that they not forget to bring along the consumate cleric and rogue. They will be needed. The nifty thing about Tome was that it included a second mini adventure and two new Prestige Classes. The mini adventure, "Knuckle Dragon", was good for another gaming session. The two new Prestige Classes, Shield Historian and Knight of Fae, were well thought out and unique. | |
