Kithbook: Satyrs< | ||

Category: game Company/Publisher: White Wolf Cost: $15 US Page count: 68 ISBN: 1-56504-728-1 Capsule Review by Kevin Mowery on 06/02/98. Genre tags: none | I've bought everything published for Changeling, and it was inevitable that I'd eventually buy Kithbook: Satyrs in spite of the hefty price tag. At the very least, I figured, I'd get more information on Satyrs. Even though they aren't my favorite of the faerie races, maybe the book would change my mind--after all, I never thought about playing a Nocker until the Kithbook came out. The Satyrs book, though, doesn't feature much in the way of new or surprising information. There's a neat history of the Satyrs, which is mostly a chapter in the history of the Sidhe and neatly explains why Arcadia, the land of the Fae, shares a name with a region of Greece. But that's about it. The later part of the history of the Satyrs, detailing how Satyrs were among the first fae into the Wild West and the first to come into contact with the Nunnehi (Native American fae) contradicts established World of Darkness history. The Sidhe had kingdoms established in the New World before European mortals ever came over, and the Shattering, when the Sidhe fled back to Arcadia, occurred in the same time frame as the Renaissance. In addition, the book is only 68 pages plus a four-page character sheet. Fifteen dollars usually buys a book twice that size, even from White Wolf. If the cost of color printing has gone up such that a Kithbook will cost $15 in the future, I'd rather they were just printed in black and white. I'd also rather they included more substance and less filler. Anyone who has already paid the money for the Changeling Player's Handbook is better off just reading the segment on Satyrs in there and using their $15 to buy pizza for their gaming group.
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
