Dragons, great armored wyrms soaring through the sky and reigning fire and death upon hapless lesser beings, have long been a staple of fantasy roleplaying and wargaming. In this game, the dragons get their due - so much that the game ignores those lousy footsloggers.
Dragon Hordes takes you where the action is - not the measly units clashing, but the powerful beasts and engines of war. Dragon Hordes concentrates on the big stuff - Dragons, catapults, giant insects, wizards, dhurgoth (dwarf) flying machines, cannons, dinosaurs, naval ships, giant sharks, giant squids, spirits, and much much more. Over land, sea, and air, Dragon Hordes lets you play with the big boys. The rules to this game are suprising simple - they take up only about 38 pages of the book. They cover everything from morale to shooting to magic and aerial dog...er, dragonfights. And its all handled on 2d6 - simple stuff, and very well presented. (Still, an index would have been nice...) The rest of the book is about the world of Dragon Hordes, Eorthe, and the groups that fight over its most precious resource - Eortheblood. These groups are - Theofas, humans who use dragons to rule their lands; Alefs (Elves), who work with giant insects and other forces of nature for war; Dhurgoth (Dwarves), who utilize technolgy and weird fliers and cannons; the Selicum Barony, pirates who use their ships and can get troops from any army; the Forgotton, a group of humans who live and work with dinosaurs; and Swaerthans - followers of a mad god, who seek to eradicate all others on Eorthe and claim it for their own. Play in Dragon Hordes is very speedy. There quick start rules that will quickly have you soaring hordes of dragons against your enemy, and you quickly learn the value of getting behind your enemy where they can't breathe on you. The game comes complete and ready to play - all you need is to wrangle up 2 six-sided dice. (If that's a challenge...we really need to have talk) A TON of counters are including in the back of the book - enough for each army, to have a sizable battle. If you need more, Corsair Publishing will be making them available seperately to fill out your hordes or so you don't have to hack up your book. Next, I am waiting for the miniatures. I need a flight of dragons...
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
