Mystic Capsule Review by Creslin on 21/02/02
Style: 4 (Classy and well done)
Substance: 5 (Excellent!)
I like it a lot. You can play it in half an hour, every action you take is vital to the game and the balance of who is winning tends to change with each action one takes. The game usually keeps exciting until the very end.

Mystic. A Non-collectable but Customizable card game by Anoch.

The basic deck, contains 78 cards. The cards are set up like a tarot-deck. 4x14 Minor cards and 22 major arcana. The minor cards are 4x 2-10 Ace, Page, Knight, Queen, King of the suits wands, cups, pentacles and swords. These are your basic cards and use 4 different types of cards. Pawns, attachments, enviroments and actions. The 22 Major arcana cards are the same as in any Tarot deck. The Fool, the Emperor, Death, the Heirophant, etc.

The object in the game is to collect as much power as you can with your pawns.

Every player starts with 39 cards in his/her deck. 11 Major Arcana and 28 Minor ( each player plays with two of the suits ). Minor arcana are the cards you can hold and play, where Majors are only used in your Mystic cross. If you draw a Major you must put it in your discard pile, and redraw. Once your out of cards, you automaticly lose.

At the start of the game there is 11 power in the "pool". The players takes 6 cards, and then draw for intiative. ( Another card, which must be laid open on the table, highest Tarot rank begins the round). Every time when it's your turn you can make one action. The three choices are Challenge for power, Play a card or draw a card. Challege lets you try to take power from the pool, or from another pawn, with your pawn. You draw X cards and put them in your Mystic cross ( a cross which can contain up to 8 cards, and is actually a form of reading the Tarot [ Celtic Cross]) where x is the number of influence your pawn has. For every matching suit you draw you gain one succes, and for every major arcana. You count your succes, and that is how many power you may transfer to your Pawn, from the source you attacked. ( Another pawn, or the pool ). Major Arcana card in your Mystic cross do have additional effect on the game, which are stated on the card. You gain one victory point for each point of power you take. If you want to play a card there are four choices. Pawn: Creature like card, which allows you to grab power. Attachment: A card which affects another card in play Enviroment: A card that stays in your In Play area which gives you some benefit. Action: A one time effect. If you chose to draw a card, you must move the draw marker to the next number on the draw count. ( After three draws, the round ends, and another round begins. This has advantages and disadvantages, which are too complex to go into now ). At the end of the round, each player gains as much victory points as he has power on his pawns, and he can clear out his mystic cross, giving him another 8 slots in his mystic cross. ( Once it's full, it's full and you can't chalange anymore, unless you end the round ). Then they draw for intiative again.

The game goes on, until there is no more power left in the pool at the END of the round player with the most victory points wins, or when one players draws his last card, and thus loses the game.

Okay, these where the rules in a nutshell and I probably forgat a few but I think I covered the basics.

The cool thing about this game, is that you value your cards. Every action you take is a major decision in this game. Do I draw a card, and thus come closer to the end of my deck and perhaps even end this round? Do I challenge now, and fill my mystic cross, so I can't challenge anymore? Do I play a card?

Games are won and lost based on those decisions, instead of how many powerfull cards there are in your deck. Every card is available to anyone who buys the game. You know which cards you get if you buy the basic deck. You can freely change the combination of suits to your style of play.

And you can even use the game as a regular Tarot deck.

Ok. This is my first review, and I hope I did a decent job. Ofcourse I would like any comments from people, Furthermore, english is not my native languages, so please excuse me for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
