Back when the Earth was young and role-playing was an unknown, TSR created a fantasy world based around the characters whose names are found in the spell lists. Tenser, Mordenkainen and the rest of the Circle of Eight were the mages you simply didn't want to cross paths with. Sure, their alignments may have been good, but they were still bastards to people they didn't like. It was a fantasy world that helped define dungeon crawls and hack & slash campaigns...but it was also a hell of a lot of fun.

Well, TSR has gone back to Greyhawk and "Return of the Eight" is a good start to their new product line. Granted it's little more than a dungeon crawl, but it's a great dungeon crawl that will bring back fond memories to old-timers like myself.

The adventure starts off with a crash...in the form of a pseudodragon falling on the head of one of the PCs. After that it's non-stop action with the players trying to stop invasion forces of Iggwilv from flooding the world. Along the way the players get to rescue Tenser's clone, explore Tenser's castle and go to Luna.

The part that bothered me the most was the layout. Instead of having two uniform columns per page, this product has two uneven columns that looks confusing. Toss in art that is substandard for TSR and you have a product that could have used some more work.

If you are looking for a one shot high-powered game to run pick this one up...your players are going to have fun rubbing shoulders with the greatest mages that TSR ever came up with.

Style: 2 (Needs Work)
Substance: 3 (Average)
