(Quick disclaimer: This is my first reveiw, so if I meander a little bear with me.)

Mythic Rsces is the second entry in Fantasy Flight Games Legends & Lairs series of d20 source books. It contains 27 alternate PC races for your d20 fantasy campaign.

To begin, the book looks fantastic. The art is black and whie, but does a good job indicating the basic looks of each race. The forst size and the type setting are large, but on my aging eyes I rather appriciate that. (I still have trouble reading some of the Wizards stuff, the type is too small.) My only complaint about the lay out of the book is that the top 1/3 of the 1st page for each entry is the same drawing w/ the name of the race superimposed on it. Just a little too much open space there, or it would have been the ideal place to put the initial drawing of that particular race.

Onto the content itself. each race gets 5 to 10 pages to itself, this includes a very well written description of each race, The racial traits (ie the meat of PLAYING the race), then one or two prestige classes specific to each race. If there are any feats or skills that are specific to that race, it is included in a highlighted section of the text either w/ the traits or the presige class.

For the most part the races themselves are fairly well balanced. I do have a quibble w/ a couple of them, and would probably not allow them as PC's. They include a race of undead (the Eleti), risen demons, and sentient stone golems (Stonegrunts). In my personal opionon those races are just a little too powerful for my stile of campain. Although I will also admit my players want to creat a party of the Undead Eleti and try to survive in a world that hunts them for what they are.

One request, why is there a catalog in the back of the book, it takes 6 pages that could have been given to one of the races that are being offered at the Fantasy Flight Games web site as an "add on" to the book.

Overall, I think this is an eccelent addition to every d20 players collection. The variety here is wide enough that most players will find something to run with. I am looking forward to incoperating many of these races into my game world.
