When I questioned The Game Store owner about Extreme Vengeance he told me it was a "Beer-and-Pretzel" RPG, as if that was something bad. Hey, I like beer, i love pretzels (I'm from Philadelphia so i prefer the soft kind!) and I love RPG's. So to his suprise I bought it right then and there. To my suprise it was only $10.00! What did I have to lose?

Well, I read the book in one sitting and pretty much learned the system right away. The game focuses on Action, Action and more Action. The concept is familiar-you are the star of a high budget action movie where explosions, flying bullets and larger-than-life villians are always causing trouble. The GM is the director who sets the scene and determines how the audience reacts to the hero. The character attempts to go through the scenes with as much explosions, butt-kicking and style to really get the audience and GM pumped. The hero recieves a better chance of succeding by coming up with spectacular ways to get things done. No "I shoot the bad guy" here!

Granted, Extreme Vengence isn't the Shakespeare of RPG's-but who wants that! It is great to break up the monotany of serious roleplaying. Just whip up some characters and blow things up! I can see where an extended campaign might wear thin, but for a session once in a while it's a blast!!

So if you ever wanted to be Arnold, Jean-Claude, or Michael Dudikoff (star of the "great" American Ninja series) buy this game and let the roll the cameras!
