Something's Cooking is a free adventure that can be downloaded at the Wizards of the Coast web-site at http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article1.asp?x=dnd/oa/oa20010413a,3. It is designed for 4 second level characters in the D&D game and provides for a single night of play.

I ran the play test with 1 level 1 character, 2 level 2 characters, and 1 level 3 character.

The plot revolves around an accident in a cooking experiment. This site-based adventure is devoid of any campaign setting specific ties and can thus be dropped into any campaign for any reason.

This adventure shows off the EL system of the 3rd edition really well. The first three encounters challenge the PCs enough to drain a few of their resources, while the final encounter taxed them to their limits, threatening their lives.

The final encounter is with a new monster---DMs read all the details of the new monster before running the encounter, as I did not and missed a few nuances. Nevetheless, the new monster is a blast, and the faces (and looks of incredulity) on the players when I unleashed it on their characters was a sight to behold.

This adventure provided a night of inspired journal writing on the part of the players, and a memorable session. The rewards were of a largely one-use nature, as well as the friendship of a powerful NPC that could serve to assist the PCs in your campaign if they chose to make use of her.

All in all, considering the free nature of the adventure, if you do have a need for an adventure of this level, download and run it!

One note: the adventure does not come with a map (and I confirmed this with the author), and the DM does have to draw one before he runs it. It took all of 5 minutes from reading the descriptions, so this shouldn't be an issue.
